PROJECT
ABOUT THE PROJECT
This is a William T. Hornaday large-scale conservation project aimed to correct the diminishing habitat of the endangered Houston toad.

The project is taking place at Lost Pines Scout Reservation in Bastrop, TX and consists of removing harmful and invasive plants, and then replacing them with native and beneficial ones such as the loblolly pine. Lost Pines as a very important area for the Houston toad because these animals have been observed migrating between two main locations, using Lost Pines Scout Reservation as a temporary rest spot. The goal of this project is to fully restore the area to prime toad habitat.

The other component to this project is educating people about the importance of these toads, the threats posed to them, and what conservation measures are being taken to ensure that they do not go extinct.
